Working in the Chicago Loop has many benefits, with great lunch spots being one of them. But if you asked me to pick my absolute favorite place to grab lunch, I would say Mixed Greens in a heartbeat. I could honestly eat the Mexicali Salad (+ tofu and avocado) every single day.
But before I share more about this special salad and Mixed Greens menu, I have to warn you that the actual establishment isn’t super fancy. In fact, I heard a fellow patron say it looked/felt like a school cafeteria. Personally, I wouldn’t take it that far, but you’re definitely not going to go there for the ambiance. With that being said, the ordering process is effective and efficient, and seating options are plenty. What more can one ask for?
Also, I love that if you ask for more of a given mix-in (within reason), you won’t be told no.
Now for the food…
In all honesty, I haven’t tried any of the other menu items…yet. I love the Mexicali Salad with it’s peanut and honey lime vinaigrette dressings oh so much! The black beans and the corn add some nice texture and bulk, while the tortilla chips add a necessary crunch. I don’t say this lightly, but it’s one of my favorite salads…ever!
Now, as far as Mixed Greens‘ other menu items are concerned, there are a number of other salads to choose from (my coworkers have all loved their personal picks), and you can also make your own. The menu also offers paninis, pizza, and soup options for non-salad lovers.
If you live and/or work in the Chicago Loop or River North neighborhood, I HIGHLY recommend you check out this little gem of a place. It won’t disappoint!
